Shooting Sports Shotgun Season Starting!

We will be starting June 8th @5:30 at the Jim River Trap Range 5 miles east of town on Highway 50.

Please be on time – we need to get the safety test done and then we will start shooting.

We will shoot every Thursday night until school starts and then we will adjust as needed. If for some reason we have bad weather we will cancel and meet the following Thursday night.

For those new to the shotgun program you will shoot 2 boxes of shells each wk (50rds) if the youth only feel like shooting 1 box each wk that is fine as well, you can bring your own or buy at the range. We have 2 – youth 20 ga shotguns as well as 2 – adult sized 12ga shotguns for the youth to use. You may bring a shotgun from home – (please make sure it is in safe working condition) but please make sure the youth are able to handle it, it will make their learning process easier. I believe they are charging $3.25 per round of targets (25) for youth it is same as last year.

Please leave your shotgun(s) in the car until after the safety meeting as some of Range rules have changed from last year, we will cover those in the safety meeting. If anyone has any questions please let Randy Hummel know. His contact information can be found on the website – hope to see everyone there!

Shooting Sports meeting

Hello 4-H families:

The first Shooting Sports meeting of the year will be on Thursday, January 26th at 7 p.m. at the Yankton County Extension Office. This will be an informational meeting about the requirements of Shooting Sports, including information for the Safety Test. We hope to have lots of people come out.

Thank you!

Volunteer sign up links for 2016 State 4-H Shoot

For every 8 entries of your county, we need 2 hours of assistance on the range and at registration. That is 600 hours of volunteer help needed to make this event happen.  If you need to split a shift with some one, just put two names in the column, along with your county.

We appreciate all the help, and frankly we desperately need it, because it would be impossible to carry without it! Every discipline has jobs to be done that require ZERO experience, or just a little bit of explanation.  Teens are very welcome to assist as well, we especially need teens working as Archery Angels with the beginner archers, assisting with scoring.
