Yankton County 4-H member Sam Hummel placed 8th individually in the Shotgun Trap Shooting Discipline at the 2012 National 4-H Shooting Sports Invitational in Grand Island, Nebraska.
Hummel was part of a team of 4-H members from across South Dakota, and qualified to compete at the national event in April at the South Dakota State 4-H Shooting Sports Match. His team placed 6th. This was Hummel’s first trip to the National 4-H Shooting Sports Invitational, and competed against a total of 91 shotgun participants.
“I’m still in shock that I place 8th in the nation. I’ve worked so hard up to this point, and it’s very rewarding to do well at a national event,” says Hummel.
A Yankton County 4-H member for 10 years, Hummel is coached by Laddie Novak, Jr. and his father Randy.
Sam is the son of Randy and Carla Hummel, and a member of the Yankton County 4-H Shooting Sports Club.
