FROM THE STATE 4-H OFFICE – WEEKLY ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR THE WEEK OF 11/16/09

National 4-H Congress/Conference – The deadline for this submission is December 10, 2009. If you have any direct questions, please contact the State 4-H Office.

Strengthening FamiliesStrengthening Families Program for Parents and Youth 10-14 Training with either Marilyn Rasmussen or Deb Bortnem. The training will be held in Sioux Falls January 5-7, 2010 at the Holiday Inn City Centre.  This age group (middle school) is a priority for 4-H/Youth Development. Most youth are becoming independent with lessened supervision during out of school time. Communication between parents and adults is essential.

Rescheduled:State 4-H Leaders Meeting – Saturday, March 27, 2010 is the newly rescheduled date for the State 4-H Leaders Meeting. The event will be held at the Davison County Fairgrounds. Ahh…The Places You Will Go with 4-H was selected as the theme for this year. Stay tuned for more information.

OMK – Operation:Military Kids – The West River Ag Center is collecting Christmas and New Year’s cards to send to soldiers overseas. This is something kids, 4-H clubs, etc. can work on and get creative. The cards need to be in the WRAC by December 10, 2009. Help make the holidays better for those that are deployed. Enclosed is a link to an article dealing with the stress of having a parent deployed. Use it to better understand what the families of those serving our armed forces are going through.

Rodeo Queen Clinic – McKenzie Haley, Miss Rodeo South Dakota 2010, will be hosting a rodeo queen clinic on February 6, 2010 during the Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo.
